Compliance checklist for shipping from India to the UAE: MoIAT conformity, VAT basics, CEPA preference, plus a short KSA note. Guide. Checked: 2026-09-24.
Checked: 2026-09-24
UAE conformity, VAT, and customs rules are regulated. This checklist is educational, not legal or tax advice. Confirm product-specific MoIAT requirements with your importer or counsel before you ship.
Shipping from India to the UAE is a compliance problem first and a marketing problem second. Regulated products need the right conformity paperwork. Preferential duty under India-UAE CEPA needs rules of origin. VAT sits with the import side under UAE Federal Tax Authority rules.
This post stays on the checklist. It does not invent market-size headlines.
Regulated products generally need a UAE Certificate of Conformity through MoIAT digital services (Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology). Typical inputs on the service page include a valid trade licence, accredited lab test reports, and fees as published on that page. Do not invent AED fee totals; open the live fee elements.
If regulated goods arrive without a CoC, MoIAT documents a Product Status Statement path. Per MoIAT's service copy, goods must not be traded domestically until a CoC is obtained or the goods are re-exported within six months (as stated on that page).
Check whether your product sits on MoIAT regulated lists before you book freight.
UAE's standard VAT rate is 5% on taxable supplies and imports, with zero-rated and exempt exceptions (FTA FAQ). Import declaration practice is described in the VAT Import Declaration User Guide. Importer and taxable-person rules are complex; confirm with a UAE tax adviser for your model.
India-UAE CEPA is an operational FTA. Preferential duty still needs Rules of Origin and the required Certificate of Origin (or allowed self-certification). Preference is not automatic from a marketplace listing. See our FTA preference guide for the check method. Do not invent a preference percentage here.
SABER is SASO's platform for Product CoC and Shipment CoC on regulated goods in Saudi Arabia. It is not a UAE system. Keep UAE MoIAT and KSA SABER as separate tracks.
When marketplace fees affect UAE-bound ecommerce SKUs, model them on the ExportDuniya fee calculator after you fix compliance and freight.
