The core instrument

The primary regulation to open is Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste (often called PPWR). EUR-Lex also hosts a summary page describing packaging rules "from 2026" with phased obligations. Always prefer the Official Journal text over blog paraphrases. Application dates and national EPR schemes change; date-stamp what you read.

What Indian sellers should confirm before shipping

  1. Who places packaging on the EU market in your model (direct MFN to consumer, FBA/EU warehouse, or sale to an EU importer).
  2. Packaging materials and formats used for the SKU (primary, secondary, transport).
  3. Labelling and recyclability claims you print or imply online.
  4. Whether EPR registration (and an authorised representative) is required in the destination member state for your role.

Do not invent recycled-content percentages or ban dates without quoting the Regulation article and its application date.
