Amazon.in Closing Fee 2026: What Changed on 7 Sep
Amazon.in closing fees from 7 Sep 2026 for Easy Ship, Seller Flex, Self Ship and FBA, and which categories pay 0% referral fee up to Rs 1,000.
Checked: 2026-10-22
The Amazon closing fee in 2026 went up on 7 September. The closing fee is the fixed rupee amount Amazon keeps on every unit you sell, on top of the referral fee (the commission, a percentage of the price). Amazon raised it by ₹1 per unit on products priced up to ₹500 and by ₹3 per unit above ₹500, for orders shipped through its fulfilment centres (FBA), Easy Ship and Seller Flex. Amazon gave "increases in fuel and logistics costs" as the reason (Amazon fee page).
This guide gives the current closing fee for every channel, explains how Amazon decides your price band, and covers the 0% referral fee on products up to ₹1,000.
What changed in the Amazon closing fee on 7 Sep 2026?
From Amazon's fee page:
- Products priced up to ₹500: closing fee up by ₹1 per unit.
- Products priced above ₹500: closing fee up by ₹3 per unit.
- The change applies to the FC (FBA), Easy Ship and Seller Flex channels. Amazon's notice does not mention Self Ship.
On one order this looks small. On 1,000 units a month above ₹500, it is ₹3,000 more in fees, plus 18% GST on that amount (₹540), because Amazon charges GST on all its fees.
Amazon closing fee 2026 by channel
All figures are per unit, in rupees, before 18% GST. Amazon sets the band by the item price including shipping charges.
| Item price incl. shipping | Easy Ship | Seller Flex | Self Ship | FBA (standard) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹0 to 300 | ₹2 | ₹7 | ₹20 | ₹27 |
| ₹301 to 500 | ₹23 | ₹13 | ₹26 | ₹23 |
| ₹501 to 1,000 | ₹48 | ₹38 | ₹51 | ₹30 |
| Above ₹1,000 | ₹79 | ₹69 | ₹101 | ₹55 |
Easy Ship, Seller Flex and Self Ship charge the same rate across all categories. FBA is different under ₹500: Amazon sorts categories into fee groups, and some pay less.
| FBA, item price incl. shipping | Fee group | Closing fee |
|---|---|---|
| ₹0 to 300 | Standard (#) | ₹27 |
| ₹0 to 300 | Group A | ₹21 |
| ₹0 to 300 | Group B | ₹14 |
| ₹301 to 500 | Standard (##) | ₹23 |
| ₹301 to 500 | Group C | ₹19 |
| ₹301 to 500 | Group D | ₹15 |
| ₹501 to 1,000 | All categories | ₹30 |
| Above ₹1,000 | Most categories | ₹55 |
| Above ₹1,000 | Select categories (for example chimneys and refrigerators) | ₹75 |
Amazon lists which category sits in which group on its fee page. Its own examples: beverages at ₹249 pay ₹27 on FBA, and shorts at ₹450 pay ₹15.
Source for every figure: the closing fee tables headed "Effective September 7th, 2026" on sell.amazon.in/fees-and-pricing, read 22 October 2026.
Which channel has the lowest closing fee?
It depends on your price band. Above ₹500, Self Ship now pays the most closing fee: on a ₹1,499 product, Self Ship pays ₹101 and FBA pays ₹55.
That does not make FBA cheaper overall. Easy Ship, Seller Flex and FBA also charge a weight handling (shipping) fee, and FBA adds pick and pack. With Self Ship you pay your own courier instead. Compare the full stack, not one line.
How does Amazon decide which price band I fall in?
Amazon's closing fee tables use the item price including shipping charges. If you list a product at ₹480 and charge the buyer ₹40 for delivery, Amazon treats it as ₹520, and it moves from the ₹301 to 500 band into the ₹501 to 1,000 band.
Two practical points:
- If your price sits just above a band edge, check whether a small change moves you down a band. On Easy Ship, ₹500 pays ₹23 and ₹501 pays ₹48.
- The bands include their upper number. ₹1,000 falls in the ₹501 to 1,000 band, not "above ₹1,000".
Is the Amazon referral fee 0% under ₹1,000?
For most categories, yes. From 16 March 2026, Amazon charges no referral fee on products priced up to ₹1,000 in 1,800+ categories, covering 12.5 crore+ products (Amazon seller blog). The fee table writes the rule as "0.00% for item price <= 1,000", so a product at exactly ₹1,000 also pays 0%.
Not every category qualifies. Some common exceptions from Amazon's referral fee table:
| Category (Amazon's name) | Referral fee up to ₹1,000 |
|---|---|
| Mobile phones | 5% at every price |
| Laptops | 6% at every price |
| Television | 6% at every price |
| Electronic Devices (except TV, camera, GPS, speakers) | 9% |
| Speakers | 11% up to ₹500, 11.5% from ₹501 to 1,000 |
| Accessories: Electronics, PC and Wireless | 0% up to ₹300, then 5% |
| Books | 0% up to ₹250, 2% up to ₹500, 4% up to ₹1,000 |
| Face wash, moisturiser, sunscreen | 0% up to ₹500, then 9% |
| Beauty: Fragrance | 0% up to ₹500, then 14% |
| Beauty: Other Products | 0% up to ₹500, then 9% |
| Health and Household: Vitamins and Mineral Health Supplements | 0% up to ₹300, 9% up to ₹500, 10.5% up to ₹1,000 |
| Pet Foods | 0% up to ₹300, then 6.5% |
Apparel, home décor, kitchen and toys rows have 0% up to ₹1,000. Find your exact category row on Amazon's fee page before you price. "Beauty" alone is not enough; the sub-category decides the rate.
Amazon also cut referral fees above ₹1,000 by 4% to 9.5% across key categories such as fashion, home and grocery from 16 March 2026 (Amazon seller blog). The current rates are in the same table.
Is the ₹1,000 limit based on MRP or selling price?
Selling price. Amazon's fee page says the referral fee "is calculated as a percentage of the total selling price of the product", and its category table uses "item price". MRP is not part of the rule. A product with an MRP of ₹1,499 that you sell at ₹899 falls in the 0% band, if its category has one.
Amazon's referral fee section does not say whether a shipping charge counts towards the ₹1,000. The closing fee bands do include it. If your price is close to ₹1,000, check the fee preview in Seller Central.
What does Amazon charge on a ₹799 and a ₹1,499 kurta?
Category: Apparel - Ethnic wear, which Amazon charges 0% up to ₹1,000 and 16.5% above. We assume no separate shipping charge to the buyer. The table shows only the referral fee, closing fee and GST on those fees, not weight handling, FBA fees, ads or returns.
₹799 kurta (referral fee 0%)
| Channel | Referral fee | Closing fee | 18% GST on fees | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy Ship | ₹0 | ₹48 | ₹8.64 | ₹56.64 |
| Seller Flex | ₹0 | ₹38 | ₹6.84 | ₹44.84 |
| Self Ship | ₹0 | ₹51 | ₹9.18 | ₹60.18 |
| FBA | ₹0 | ₹30 | ₹5.40 | ₹35.40 |
₹1,499 kurta (referral fee 16.5% = ₹247.34)
| Channel | Referral fee | Closing fee | 18% GST on fees | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy Ship | ₹247.34 | ₹79 | ₹58.74 | ₹385.08 |
| Seller Flex | ₹247.34 | ₹69 | ₹56.94 | ₹373.28 |
| Self Ship | ₹247.34 | ₹101 | ₹62.70 | ₹411.04 |
| FBA | ₹247.34 | ₹55 | ₹54.42 | ₹356.76 |
The rate applies to the whole price, not just the part above ₹1,000. Amazon's own example: baby apparel at ₹1,450 with a 7% referral fee pays ₹101.50.
Do I pay GST on Amazon's closing fee?
Yes. Amazon's fee page says all fees are shown excluding GST and that it applies 18% GST to all of them. If you are GST-registered, you can usually claim this as input tax credit using Amazon's fee invoice. Confirm the treatment with your CA.
