The Union Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has marked exports as one of the four key engines driving India's economic growth, alongside agriculture, MSMEs, and investments. This strategic focus aims to enhance India's global trade footprint by diversifying export markets and improving manufacturing competitiveness. Here are the key export highlights from Budget 2025:

Export Promotion Mission

  • Objective: The Export Promotion Mission is designed to facilitate easier access to export credit, provide cross-border factoring support, and help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) navigate non-tariff barriers in global markets.

  • Allocation: The mission has been allocated ₹2,250 crore to support these initiatives.

  • Impact: This mission will play a crucial role in boosting exports by empowering MSMEs, which are vital for India's economic growth and global trade ambitions.

BharatTradeNet (BTN)

  • Purpose: BharatTradeNet is a digital public infrastructure aimed at streamlining international trade by integrating key stakeholders into a unified platform for trade documentation and financing solutions.

  • Features: It will eliminate paper-based processes, aligning with international practices and complementing the Unified Logistics Interface Platform.

  • Benefits: By simplifying trade documentation and financing, BTN will enhance supply chain efficiency and facilitate smoother international trade transactions.

National Framework for Global Capability Centres (GCCs)

  • Objective: The government will introduce a National Framework to guide states in promoting GCCs in emerging tier-2 cities, creating new avenues for investment and employment.

  • Impact: This initiative will position India as a preferred hub for GCCs, driving AI adoption, digital transformation, and high-value services for multinational corporations (MNCs).

Infrastructure Upgrades for Air Cargo

  • Focus: The government plans to upgrade infrastructure and warehousing facilities for air cargo, particularly for high-value perishable horticulture produce.

  • Benefits: This will enhance the efficiency of exporting perishable goods, supporting India's agricultural sector and boosting exports.

Financial Support for Exporter MSMEs

  • Loan Eligibility: MSME exporters will be eligible for term loans of up to ₹20 crore to support their international expansion.

  • Impact: This financial support will empower MSMEs to increase their export capabilities, contributing significantly to India's export growth.

Export Targets and FDI Reforms

  • Export Target: The government has set an ambitious target of $800 billion for goods and services exports.

  • FDI Limit: The foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in the insurance sector has been increased to 100%, attracting more foreign investment into the sector.

In summary, Budget 2025 is poised to significantly boost India's export sector through strategic initiatives like the Export Promotion Mission, BharatTradeNet, and support for MSMEs. These measures are designed to enhance India's integration with global supply chains, improve manufacturing competitiveness, and drive economic growth.
